APA Division of Psychoanalysis (39)

29th Annual Spring Meeting

April 22 – 26, 2009

Hilton Palacio del Rio, San Antonio, Texas

Each spring, the American Psychological Association's Division of Psychoanalysis, or Division 39, sponsors a national conference. The Spring Meeting hosts renowned psychoanalysts, offers scholarly presentations and thought-provoking discussions, and includes fun social events that provide wonderful opportunities for networking with colleagues from across the U.S. and abroad.

The meeting is open to interested professionals from all mental health disciplines and offers a reduced registration fee for graduate students and institute candidates. In 2009, we're fortunate that the Spring Meeting will be in San Antonio, reducing travel costs for local participants.

The theme for 2009 is "Viva Psychoanalysis! Finding Connections from Couch to Culture." The conference begins on Thursday morning, April 23rd and continues until Sunday afternoon, April 26th. The keynote presenters are: Salman Akhtar, MD, Wilma Bucci, PhD, and Haydee Faimberg, MD.

In addition to the keynote speeches, there are at least four choices of panels to attend for each remaining time slot, two slots in the morning and two in the afternoon, Fri. Sat. and Sun.

Wednesday, April 22nd is the pre-conference CE day and people may attend those workshops for an additional registration fee.

The meeting is being co-hosted by ASPP and San Antonio Society for Psychoanalytic Studies (SASPS). The program co-chairs are JoAnn Ponder, PhD of ASPP and Stacey Rubin, PhD, LPC of SASPS. The steering committee members are Marianna Adler, PhD, Cynthia Diaz De Leon, PhD,

Wayne Ehrisman, PhD, Naomi Freireich, LCSW, Paul Ingmundson, PhD, Marilyn Maas, PhD, MarshaMcCary, PhD, Tracy Sloan, LCSW, Martha Vogel, PhD, and Peggy Whilde, MA.

If you plan to attend the Spring Meeting, consider joining Division 39 today to receive a discounted registration fee. Given that the Spring Meeting coincides with Fiesta in San Antonio, we also recommend that folks register and make hotel reservations early!

If you have questions about the conference or want to volunteer to help in some way, please contact     Stacey Rubin (Stacey.Rubin@mac.com) or one of the other steering committee members.  To join Division 39 or for additional information about the Spring Meeting, go to www.division39.org.
